We decided to call it JLS Studio WAY before the boy band! Our JLS name stands for Jonathan Livingston Seagull ... the creation of Richard Bach. We both loved the story and, particularly, the deeper meaning of it. When the boy band of the same name emerged, we were gutted. We discussed changing the name to something like Seagull Studio. Then we thought 'Hey we were here first' so we're still JLS Studio!

started his sound engineering apprenticeship in the early 70s at De Lane Lea Studios in London. Clients were many and varied but included Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac and Wishbone Ash.
In 1978 he was asked by Steve Hackett to engineer and co-produce Steve's first solo album 'Voyage of the Acolyte'. This collaboration continued for another five albums! It involved working with many great musicians including Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Randy Crawford and Richie Havens (to name a few).
He's also worked with Labi Siffre, Hot Chocolate, Showaddywaddy, Roy Wood's Wizard, Robert Palmer, Sade, Elkie Brookes, Chris Farlowe, Rick Wakeman, Vangelis, The Cure, Foreigner, Prefab Sprout and Dionne Warwick.
Albums with Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Ian Matthews and Gordon Giltrap have given him a lasting interest in recording acoustic music.
He's worked in some of the UK and Europe's best-known studios, but now feels it is time to opt into a more halcyon lifestyle as a Midlands based freelance engineer.
A small 'home facility' allows one/two person acoustic-based acts to record economically with a very experienced engineer/producer thrown in!
